Holtwood Hydroelectric Plant

This project included fabrication and installation of 78-inch pipe to attract migrating shad toward an elaborate fish elevator system at Holtwood Hydroelectric Plant, also known as Holtwood Dam. The expansion, one of the largest of its kind in the U.S., included enhancements to the fish lifts to improve the passage for migratory fish along the Susquehanna River.

Project Highlights:

• Carbon steel “fish attraction piping” through existing dam
• Fiberglass reinforced plastic pipe embedded in concrete
• Compressed air “bubbler” piping across a 600 ft. long skimmer wall
• Embedded compressed air “flashboard” piping across a portion of existing dam
