Herbert Bassett McClure moves from Wooster, Ohio to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and joins Fisher Brothers, a company focusing on plumbing, boiler installation and outhouses.

The partnership of Fisher Brothers & McClure (Fisher & McClure) is formed and located at 1001 Capital Street, Harrisburg, PA.

Herbert Bassett McClure acquires an office at 1515 Derry Street in Harrisburg and incorporates HB McClure Company as a PA corporation principally involved in the “sale, installation, and service of oil heating equipment.”

Herbert’s son Robert (Bob) F. McClure joins HB McClure and expands it into a contracting entity. Bob unfortunately passes away as a prisoner of war during WWII.

Herbert’s son William (Bill) E. McClure, Sr. joins HB McClure Company as a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Gettysburg College.

In order to supply greater manpower for large commercial work during the post-war building boom, McClure Company is formed and incorporated as a Union mechanical contractor, operating out of the Derry Street facility next to HB McClure. Bill McClure, Sr. runs McClure Company until 1974.

Bill McClure, Jr. joins McClure Company.

McClure completes its first design/build job, a $50,000 job with HB Alexander & Son.

Bill McClure, Jr. becomes president.

McClure Company expands into the industrial market and completes a $22,000 shutdown for Bethlehem Steel.

The team completes its largest design/build job to that time, at Market Square in York.

McClure begins its Mechanical Services division.

McClure finishes a $7 million job at the PA State Capitol Complex, the company’s largest job to date.

The company completes a $10 million project at the New Cumberland Army Depot.

This year, McClure Company also acquires Temp Con Mechanical Services.

Annual revenue is $30 million, and the company begins its tradition of annual strategic business planning.

McClure completes its first major power plant project at York County Incinerator.

McClure focuses on building long-term relationships and developing specialized emphasis on design/build and service. The company experiences rapid expansion in the industrial, institutional, pharmaceutical, food manufacturing and healthcare markets.

McClure Company relocates to its current Harrisburg headquarters at 4101 North Sixth Street. The company also sees successful growth upon purchasing HB Dissinger Company, a mechanical contracting competitor.

The company opens its State College office.

Annual revenue reaches over $50 million.

McClure completes its first energy services project at Northern School District for Siemens and its first orbital job at JJ Merck & Co in Lancaster.

McClure Company is acquired by PPL.

The company completes its first combined-cycle power plant project with Ironwood Constructors, negotiates a $1 million ATC job at Pinnacle Health, and enters into its first energy services contract with Lehighton School District.

McClure Company’s Williamsport office opens.

McClure Company opens a new branch office in Wilkes-Barre. That same year, the company expands its Harrisburg office to accommodate record sales in design/build and energy services.

McClure begins a 14 phase energy project for East Lycoming School District which goes on to include many upgrades over the next decade including two earth coupled geothermal heat pump loops, a wood chip biomass heating system, a 600 kW solar photovoltaic array, a small scale wind turbine, lighting replacements, building envelope upgrades, HVAC efficiency upgrades and more.

Service sales reach $10 million, and the company finishes its second combined-cycle power plant project at Hunterstown.

McClure achieves 3 million man-hours with zero lost time injuries.

McClure Company ranks on the list of “Best Places to Work in PA” for the first time and goes on to be named every year since.

The company designs and builds all mechanical systems for one of the largest greenfield hospitals ever built in Pennsylvania (West Shore Hospital in Mechanicsburg, PA).

McClure fabricates and installs 78-inch pipe to attract migrating shad toward an elaborate fish elevator system for an expansion job at Holtwood Hydroelectric Power Plant, one of the largest expansions of its kind in the US.

McClure Company opens an office in Western PA.

MB Mechanicals Holdings, LLC (MBMH) is founded as a vehicle for the private, management-led acquisition of longtime partners McClure Company and Burns Mechanical from Talen Energy.

The company sees record growth, reaching an annual volume of $200 million.

McClure opens its first office in Maryland. The company also acquires Pittsburgh-based DASCO, Inc. to strengthen its industrial services offered in Western PA.

The company sells majority ownership interest to Sojitz Corporation of America (SCA), a global trading company headquartered in New York and Tokyo. SCA provides McClure with significant additional resources for new acquisitions, geographic growth, and financial solutions. McClure continues operating as a private company with no business changes from the employee or customer perspectives.

McClure Company completes its largest project in the history of the company, Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center, with a total contract value of $56 million.

After serving as president for more than 20 years, Chip Brown transitions to President and CEO of McClure’s holding company, Sojitz Energy Services LLC. Shayne Homan is named President and CEO of McClure Company, effective January 1, 2024.
