West Shore Hospital – New Construction & Expansion

McClure provided Design Build services for all mechanical and plumbing systems during the initial construction of this 102-bed hospital. Construction included installation of 30,000 lf of medical gas lines, 50,000 lf of plumbing, 25,000 lf of HVAC piping, and 15,000 pieces of sheet metal.

As community needs continued to grow, the hospital had been consistently operating at 90 percent capacity since opening in 2014. In order to meet the needs of area residents, UPMC Pinnacle decided to expand West Shore Hospital by extending additional patient floors horizontally above the existing Emergency Department. McClure Company provided Design Assist services for all mechanical and plumbing systems for the 58-bed expansion, which was completed in 2020.

Features of the expansion include:

• Addition of a safe area within the Emergency Department for behavioral health patients
• Expansion of the observation unit adjacent to the Emergency Department
• Expansion of support services, including central processing, central sterile and pharmacy
• Expansion of surgical services with new operating rooms
• Additional ICU beds
